Brian Bowen Smith Josh Groban looks at starring in a Broadway musical, 'Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812,' for which he earned a Tony nomination, as 'an insane twist of fate that was one of the great creative experiences of my life.' And when he left the show, in mid-2017, he dove straight into the creative process for his latest album, 'Bridges.' It's his first collection of original material since 'All That Echoes' in 2013. 'So I had a lot of music in my head and in my iPhone,' Groban says. 'I wanted to do an album that was similar to my earlier albums, 'Closer' and 'Awake,' but I wanted to do it with a fresh twist, fresh collaborators. And I wanted to sing my (rear) off.'
